Pierre Gasly was the fastest at the first test in Bahrain

Pierre Gasly led AlphaTauri’s timing in the first practice of the new F1 season, and Lewis Hamilton was only seventh with Mercedes ahead of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix.

Gasly set a time of 1:34.193 ahead of the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in Sahir’s afternoon heat, while George Russell’s other Mercedes finished fourth and world champion Max Verstappen fifth behind Red Bull.

Drivers will return to the track for a second practice session in Bahrain in the evening when track conditions are more representative of those the teams will face in qualifying on Saturday and Sunday’s race.
