In fact, Education Minister and Women’s Minister Isabelle Charest announced on March 11 a $20 million award to support 250 projects in Quebec under the Small Sports and Recreation Infrastructure Support Program (PSIRPE).

At MRC Antoine-Labelle, five projects will benefit from this. They are here:

  • Kiamika: $17,585.41 to upgrade the baseball field;
  • Lac-des-Ecorces: $59,227.66 to upgrade the multi-sport center;
  • Notre-Dame-du-Laus: $100,000 to develop game modules;
  • Lac du Cerf: $60,241.13 to upgrade the Parc de la Biche Ebertisme;
  • Nominated: $91,795.83 to refurbish tennis courts at Grégoire-Charbonneau Park.

Minister Charest notes that the program is popular because the starting amount has been raised by the government by $10 million.

“The popularity of this new program is a testament to this: Quebecers want to be active more than ever. This $20 million investment will create quality infrastructure. Citizens of all ages, especially families, will have more opportunities to move around. I especially want to thank the small municipalities and organizations that submitted projects. With these new infrastructures, you give yourself the means to meet the needs of your population while increasing the dynamism of your municipality. Everyone wins! Minister Charest said.

“Our region, which is already attractive to active people, will soon offer several improvements to the sports and leisure infrastructure to keep us moving more. Since the benefits of physical activity are numerous for both young and old, I am convinced that the improvement and modernization of these facilities will contribute to a better quality of life for citizens,” added MNA for Labelle Chantal Jeannotte.

Two projects are also receiving support from the MRC des Laurentides: La Minerve’s Park of Smiles upgrade, which is eligible for $66,978.75, and the Labelle soccer field upgrade, which is eligible for $100,000.
