Logan Paul and KSI’s new Prime Hydration sports drinks could rival Gatorade and Powerade, but can they outperform the competition?
When KSI insulted Logan Paul’s girlfriend before the YouTubers’ first boxing match in 2018, launching a new line of fruity sports drinks was hardly on their to-do list. Unless it’s a bitter Seville orange.
However, 2022 is — according to Logan — the year of love, and their way of showing that is not only to put old differences aside, but to become business partners with Prime Hydration, a new line of sports drinks.
Like everything Logan and KSI did together, it was very popular. All five flavors—Orange, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Lemon Lime, and Tropical Punch—were sold out within two weeks of launch on January 4 and are restocking for the second time.
Buying drinks in the store was more difficult than KSI biceps, but we managed to get the whole range for testing. So, do they pack a punch and how do they compare to some of their competitors?
Aromas and flavors of Prime Hydration
There are differences between Prime Hydration and some of its closest competitors. Sports drinks contain electrolytes to replace losses during exercise, but Prime Hydration claims it’s a healthier option, containing 10% electrolyte-rich and nutritious coconut water, with no added sugar.
However, Prime Hydration contains artificial sweeteners and, as you might expect, water will always be the healthiest option.
However, we’ll leave nutritional advice to the experts and focus on taste. The ingredients list natural flavor and citric acid to enhance the flavor, but that doesn’t mean you’re actually getting real fruit juices in these drinks. However, many fruit flavors don’t seem overly artificial.
Orange, for example, has a pleasantly sharp citrus flavor, while grapes and blue raspberries are sweet but not cloying. The lemon-lime is also pleasantly sour, just like Logan and KSI’s past relationship.
All that remains is Tropical Punch, a drink that should have flavors like pineapple, mango and passion fruit. Unfortunately, unlike other drinks in the range, this one has an artificial taste.
Prime Hydration packaging and pricing
Still, offering the best-tasting drinks in four out of five flavors is a good measure of success, although that’s to be expected given that a bottle of Prime Hydration costs 70 cents and a dollar more than the Gatorade, Powerade, and Armor flavors.
Currently, Walmart and Kroger sell the product for just under $2 a bottle, while stores like GNC sell it for about 50 cents more. If you can’t find bottles, read our article on how to buy drinks.
Using bright bottles of Prime Hydration, Logan Paul and KSI do their best to stand out in a crowded market, but the main thing that really delivers the drinks is the rich taste. Although they cost more, the fact that they have less added sugar than some of the competition can only be a plus, even if drinking water is still the healthier post-workout option (and the cheapest).
