Saint Lucie de Porto-Vecchio: revitalization of the sports infrastructure and regeneration of the city

She is not yet two years old, but the non-municipal sports commission is delighted with a rather interesting first assessment after a meeting earlier in the week. “Our main task was to assess all sports facilities in the city, both on the coast and in the mountains. We have enough of them to accommodate fans of many sports, but some infrastructure had to be revised, and work taken into account. . to ensure a more consistent use with the territory and its needs, as well as to achieve dynamics”promoted by Emmanuel Agostini, vice president in charge of the commission, which consists of a dozen members, including, among others, elected officials in charge of associations and CCAS.

Thus, the first project is the reorganization of infrastructure to bring it in line with supply and demand in the municipality, in particular on the coast. “We wanted to commemorate numerous facilities: the stadium, the dojo, the gym, the bowling alley, the tennis court, the basketball court, the local MJC… However, some of them are not used or have little effect. So we moved some activities like soft gym and yoga to MJC premises where there is a dance hall more suitable for practice. And we applied this reasoning to attract new associations that pays off from today, they are the ones who are asking us to benefit from our infrastructure.”

New dojo coming soon

However, more or less large-scale work is planned. This may include purchasing equipment and refurbishing certain locations, particularly on the athletics track, such as building an indoor climbing wall. “for which there is a real demand”or a new dojo worth 741,180 euros excluding taxes, “with funding requested from the national sports agency and the CdC, 20% and VAT remain with the municipality”. The future of the dojo was imagined “with teachers who use it and who are best able to identify their needs. Consultations with key stakeholders, whether from associations or citizens who want to practice in good conditions, shift lines, and that is also the point of the commission.”

For the little ones, always in the spirit of the revitalization of the city, a municipal sports school has been created that deals with the mountains and the coast. In total, about thirty elementary school children visit every Wednesday morning, about forty during the school holidays, which is also an opportunity to bring young climbers to the beach for activities such as sailing or rock climbing, and vice versa, mountain biking and tree climbing. . Three employees take care of the children and each semester make them do different activities, “to make them want to move, to discover sports they might not have thought of, whether it be individual or team sports. Another goal is that they can then go to clubs when they like to practice.” Activity can develop throughout the day, depending on demand in the coming months.

The near future will also be a time of reconnection with the events “Even if we were able to schedule a few events such as an association day, a telethon, A scappata or a wellness weekend in Viseo, we had to cancel the triathlon in June due to health issues.”. But the PLB will return on the weekend of June 24-26, “with a festive look and a sporty look”. Two different races will be offered, one will be available on Saturday at Pinarello and the other will connect sea and mountains on Sunday. “Registration for Krono Corsica is already open and we hope people will.”

At the end of the summer, a weekend dedicated to fitness and wellness should be organized, this time on the coast and with external speakers, as well as a regatta in the Gulf of Pinarello. “Dates and program are still to be determined, but two events are expected”argues Emmanuel Agostini, for whom the goal remains “First of all, to energize the city so that people want to settle there and raise their children in this idyllic setting.”
